Playing with Watercolor Pencils

Here's today's accomplishment.

Using Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils and 3/8" angular flat.

Stillman & Birn Alpha journal

Pencil first applied dry and then wet wash with brush

Platinum Carben pen used for writing on page.

Bottom right was the last one I did.  I goofed on the back wings placing the dark winged tips too high.  By this time my concentration level had slipped and I was "winging it"  with what I thought it should look like rather than following with eyes and putting down on paper.  Shame on me :-))

Very cute Susan! I love how you have used your type and how you have designed and embellished your page.

I really like these colorful birds!Do youllike using the pencils, as compared to "real" watercolors? I have grown to LOVE my watercolor pencils! I'm most comfortable with colored pencils, so it's a great way for me to get a "softer" watercolory look and still use my favorite art tools!

Thank you Melody..........I'm still undecided on the watercolor pencils. Although this new brand I like much better than the original. My first set were Derwent and I didn't like the line marks that left behind after a wet brush was taken to them. These Albrecht Durer pencils are so different and I actually like them. Now as to more so than true watercolors.....don't think I could ever like anything better. Watercolors can do things other mediums can't....the unexpected results that are like magic. Now if I can learn to work the together :-))

I have found the softer watercolor pencils are much easier to blend away the marks.
prismacolor are very soft. I also have AquaMonolith (woodless)which are nice too!

I've don't think I've ever tried the prismacolor and never heard of the AquaMonolith. I foresee a possible future purchase in the making......lol. I'm such a sucker for trying new stuff even though I have enough supplies now to supply several workshops in various mediums. :-)
