Today I'm back to sketching from my last trip to Discovery Gardens. I'm hoping to get back there this week in anticipation of the cactus tree in full bloom (what I'm referring to as a tree because of it's size.....photo below). I've only seen it with buds, flowers just starting to open, and after the flowers have stopped blooming.

Very nice sketch Susan. I love the colors. I have never heard of a cactus tree. At first glance I thought it was a magnolia tree blossom. They look so similar. I just learned something new!
Thank you on the colors.
And, as far as the cactus I was referring to, it's probably not an actual tree.........lol. It's super tall and why I refer to it as such. I'll have to get a picture to share so you can see what I mean. I want to go back to see the flowers on the cactus though. When we were there Tuesday, the buds were just starting to open. I'm hoping this week it will be going into full bloom.
This is some type of Bromeliad I painted. I updated the post with the photo I took of these. I may try this again showing more than just a single plant. They are so neat!
Oh, now I see this is nothing like the magnolia tree. That is one thick cactus! Very interesting for sure!
That tree or cactus is really huge (giant prickly pear, I believe is what it's called). Wish I had a picture with one of the gals under it for a better idea of size.
